ionysis signs a third major technology development contract with a German industry partner. With this, ionysis surpasses 1.3 million euro in contract volume since the operational start in september 2022.
The Freiburg-based start-up ionysis GmbH has secured a six-digit development contract for the integration and optimization of innovative materials in fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs). The contract was awarded by one of the top companies in the German hydrogen technology industry . The main goal is to develop fuel cell MEAs for use in heavy-duty transport. The project focuses on both performance optimization for demanding heavy-duty operations and scaling ionysis’ CCM technology to full-format size.
“It is really pleasing that we were able to win our third comprehensive industrial contract,” said Lisa Langer, CFO and co-managing director. “The contract is of great strategic importance for us. Above all, the rapid scaling of new CCM compositions to full-format size is an important skill for the further development of our young company,” adds Dr. Matthias Breitwieser, CTO and co-managing director of ionysis, added.
ionysis
ionysis GmbH develops highly efficient, emission-free and sustainable membrane electrode assemblies, the key performance-deciding components of fuel cells and electrolysers. ionysis unique value proposition is the significantly reduced content of perfluorinated substances - a problematic component that is increasingly being banned worldwide due to its environmental impact. The aim is to further develop novel membrane electrode assemblies and bring them to market. In September 2022, ionysis started operations with a team of eight people and has more than trippled by since then. The foundation for the spin-off from Hahn-Schickard-Institute for Applied Research and University of Freiburg was laid within the framework of several publicly funded research projects. The company secured seed financing by two strategic partners.
