ionysis signs first big technology development contract with German industry partner

The aim of the agreement in the mid six-figure range is the development and evaluation of new components for membrane electrode assemblies for heavy-duty fuel cell applications. "We are proud to have closed this substantial development contract so soon after our start - this gives our company an important boost in this early phase," says Lisa Langer, CFO of ionysis.

The basis for the order was the specialized experience of the ionysis team in the field of prototype development of membrane electrode assemblies based on new materials. “We are really pleased that our competence in the agile and rapid development of novel compositions for next-generation membrane electrode assemblies is already being recognized by established players in the market. That makes us very optimistic for the future of our young company," says Dr. Matthias Breitwieser, CTO of ionysis.

ionysis

ionysis GmbH develops highly efficient, emission-free and sustainable membrane electrode assemblies, the key performance-deciding components of fuel cells. ionysis unique value proposition is the significantly reduced content of perfluorinated substances - a problematic component that is increasingly being banned worldwide due to its environmental impact. The aim is to further develop novel, environmentally friendly membrane electrode assemblies and to demonstrate their technical feasibility on a large scale. On September 1, 2022, ionysis started operations with a team of eight people and will have almost doubled by mid-2023. The foundation for the spin-off from Hahn-Schickard and University of Freiburg was laid within the framework of several publicly funded research projects. The company secured seed financing by two strategic partners.
