ionysis is looking for a Senior Scientist Electrolysis (f/m/d)

ionysis develops next-generation membrane electrode assemblies for electrochemical converters. As a recently founded and well-funded start-up based in beautiful and vibrant Freiburg, we are looking for a senior scientist (f/m/d) to lead and grow the electrolysis team. 

  

You have worked for years with electrolyzers and you have a talent to bring out the best in your team members? Then this position is for you! At ionysis we are going the next step and want to transfer our PFAS-free technology to electrolyzers. In this position, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the team and the electrolysis field at ionysis right from the start. 

 

 

What we do  

To stop climate change and reach Net Zero, ionysis seeks to decarbonize mobility and industry with innovative electrochemical devices. We focus on the core of any electrochemical converter: the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). We develop and manufacture MEAs based on the most performant fluorine-free materials for fuel cells and electrolyzers. As a spin-off from Hahn-Schickard and University of Freiburg, we combine scientific excellence with entrepreneurial spirit to bring our innovations to market and scale. 

Your responsibilities

  • Establishing water electrolysis as an additional field of activity for ionysis

  • Supervising the development of MEAs for water electrolysis according to our technical roadmap

  • Supervising the buildup and operation of electrolyzer test benches

  • Developing strategies to advance the technology

  • Moderating regular technical meetings and reporting to the management


Your qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for fighting climate change and contributing to Net Zero

  • Strong team player and first experience in leading teams

  • A technical education with profound engineering or chemistry experience (e.g., PhD in a relevant field)

  • Experience in industry is a plus

  • Fluency in German and English
